In 2005, the earthquake that hit northern Pakistan was unprecedented. Never since its foundation had the country been confronted with a natural disaster of such magnitude. The earthquake killled more than 80,000 people, injured almost 70,000, and left more than 3.3 million homeless. The Kashmiri town of Muzaffarabad was one of the most heavily-affected localities.
