Indonesia: Madurese Refugees, Central Kalimantan Province

Indigenous Dayaks killed more than 500 Madurese settlers in a rampage of ethnic violence in Indonesia's Central Kalimantan Province, in February 2001. The Dayak tradition of headhunting resumed during 12 days of bloodletting. Fifty thousand refugees were evacuated from the portside town of Sampit.
